| Gaia: | The accompanying of young people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD), which used to be care-centered, now takes into account the person as a learner. Identifying these young people’s skills is a real challenge because the implementation of an educational relationship depends on it. The expression of those skills may be highly influenced by the context as well as by the accompanying educators’perceptions and representations. This is precisely what we wanted to study, by organizing meetings crossing the professionals’and parents’views concerning the same young people with PIMD. The Polycom research project focused on the communication of students with PIMD in a classroom context. A thematic content analysis of the cross-view meetings highlighted contextual and relational elements, regarding particularly the young people’s placement, initiatives, and expressions of emotions as well as sensory stimulations and the professionals’gestures. |
