| סיכום: | The scope of application of South African legislation on leave and social security benefits for employees who are parents was broadened in 2018. This contribution compares the post-amendment statutory framework to the provisions of directive 2019/1158/EU. The comparison is based on four South African constitutional rights and principles that correspond with those underlying the directive. The finding is that work-life balance for parents and carers has not received due attention in the South African legislative agenda, despite the generous Constitution. South African policy makers and the legislature could draw inspiration from the provisions of directive 2019/1158 on parental and carers’ leave when developing a uniquely SA framework aimed at achieving work-life balance for parents and carers. |
