| Résumé: | This article examines the core elements of the means through which reproductive governance has operated based on the exercise of parenthood. The increasingly broad use of the term is associated with ideological debates between its emancipatory dimension and that of strong parental control, which may indicate a shift from the so-called “policing of families” to a “policing of parenthoods”. The article charts the apparatuses of maintenance/support for monitoring parenthood, as well as highlights its infrastructures. It also emphasises how social markers of difference are fundamental to understanding how parenthood is regulated as well as how it is exercised. Finally, we argue the understanding of such hegemonic processes cannot dispense with addressing possible negotiations and struggles regarding parenting and parenthood, highlighting their disputed nature and openness to reflexivity. |
