Résumé:The French label “littératures autochtones” is useful when referring to the literatures of the First Nations of America and Australia, whose visibility on the international publishing scene has been evident in France in recent years through an increasing number of translations and research projects including these authors. However practical it may be, the term poses a number of questions for the comparative researcher: how can we account for the great linguistic and poetic heterogeneity of these literatures? Is it a construction that perpetuates binarities that need to be historicized? What strategies do non-Native researchers need to deploy in their teaching and research, especially when it comes to dealing with texts in Native languages?
