| Résumé: | This paper proposes to clarify, using an unpublished document (the journal of Paul Villelume, from 1938-1939), the perception of German military potential by officials of the French high command on the eve of the declaration of war. Through these writings, the reader can perceive the origins of the strategic views of the leaders of the French army, and note that the perception of the military potential of the probable enemy--German--was not the major determinant. |
