Indeed, boredom appears difficult to define and measure. Drawing distinctions between emotion and sensation, between reactions of frustration and coping mechanisms, also proves challenging. Although few French-speaking studies in management sciences refer to this subject, this literature review reveals a wide range of research showing that boredom appears to be both a cause and a consequence of poor working conditions or a lack of meaning. A research agenda on the theoretical issues of this theme is proposed, highlighting profitable managerial perspectives for employees and organizations.L’ennui au travail s’inscrit au cœur de nombreux paradoxes organisationnels, mais il est pourtant peu pris en compte, voire délégitimé au sein des organisations. En effet, il apparaît difficile à définir et mesurer, de même qu’à situer entre émotion et sensation, frustration et adaptation. Si peu de travaux francophones en sciences de gestion y font référence, cette revue de la littérature révèle une richesse de recherches montrant que l’ennui apparaît à la fois comme une cause et une conséquence de conditions de travail dégradées ou de déficits de sens. Un agenda de recherche sur les enjeux théoriques de cette thématique est suggéré, permettant de souligner les perspectives managériales fructueuses pour les salariés et les organisations.Cairn restricted access
