Sumari:The first rationale of affirmative action was to help the African-American community integrate and wipe out discrimination practices in the workplace. Yet, as immigration levels from Caribbean and African Blacks are reaching record highs today, it no longer serves its original purpose. Employers who show a marked preference for these newcomers, both in low-skilled and high-skilled jobs, are able to display a minority-friendly attitude and a diversified workforce. But aren’t they merely exercising a new, more subtle form of discrimination against African-Americans, one that pits “Black” against “Black” and deliberately confuses skin color and ethnicity ?
