Sažetak:In Quebec, the health and social services sector is facing a shortage of skilled workers. In this context, international recruitment and contextualizing the training of foreign-trained social workers are among the measures being taken to overcome it. This article presents an analysis of unforeseen events during a study in the field of social work, which is part of a wider study on the integration of foreign-trained professionals into internships in four professional fields. Drawing on an intercultural and interactionist perspective, the team looks back at the unforeseen events that marked their process studying the integration of foreign-trained social workers into internships. Compared to their initial research intentions, the unforeseen circumstances encountered led the team to adjust and make observations about the dynamics of integration into the world of Quebec social work. Confronted with the absence of scientific literature on integration into programs for knowledge contextualization and internships, and the marginal role of the latter compared to that of private placement agencies in accessing the social work field, the team presented its findings, which open up avenues for reflection and action for research, academia and practice.
