| Samenvatting: | This study concerns Suzanne Malherbe’s unpublished, incomplete and overlooked manuscript named Peter and Madonna which has been archived among her memoir notes in Jersey Archive and the Beinecke Library. It employs Dirk Van Hulle’s theories of “creative concurrence” and “creative recurrence” to argue that this text constitutes not merely an extended ludic interlude from a torturous and unsuccessful process of memoir drafting, but an autofictional text which experiments with alternative ways to translate a life — or two intertwined lives — into textual form. |
