| Sumari: | The development of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine seems to go beyond the legal limits of pure defensive warfare, which is the only type of hostility authorized by international law. Western supply of economic aid, weapons including cluster bombs, Ukraine’s bombing of buildings located on Russian soil, justification of the war in the name of the European way of life, transcends the limit of the war of defense in the name of a specific interest of the invaded State to assume the more general features of a moral war and thus touch the concept of co-belligerency for Western countries. Whitin this pattern, the justification of a military intervention appears to be acceptable only when it comes from a democratic Western country. In these cases, emerges a metaphysical nuance related to the fight of good against evil. The article stresses risks and ambiguities of this approach, emphasizing a possible gap between «moral» and legal standards. |
