| 總結: | At the end of his theological career, E.L. Mascall articulated in Theology and the Gospel of Christ (1977) his misgivings about the direction academic theology was taking. He saw theology as being in a state of crisis, arguing that theologians, in their anxiety to be accepted in the modern secularized university, have neglected the practice of theology in the proper sense of the term. The result of this neglect of theology’s proper object is a loss of coherence and unity amongst the various theological disciplines, which crucially threatens the relevance of the theological endeavour. The paper presents and develops Mascall’s critique in engagement with other theologians (inter alia Joseph Ratzinger and Stanley Hauerwas) and attempts to sketch a way forward. |
