| Crynodeb: | The Boulle coin cabinet belonging to Max Emanuel II, Elector of Bavaria, is the only piece of wooden-marquetry furniture made by André-Charles Boulle currently in Germany. Twenty-one different species of wood were used for the marquetry design. It has been suggested that dyes were used to achieve additional colouring effects. UV-VIS spectrometry was used as a non-destructive method of testing dyes. Results indicated that some green and yellow elements of the marquetry were dyed, and the underpainting of the dragonfly was painted with the blue pigments indigo and smalt. |
