Discussed here are the origins of and the reasons for this initiative, as well as its mission and scope. The article describes the content development for the website – through a joint effort of museums, research institutions and individual scholars – and the technology infrastructure used for this. Furthermore, the paper discusses possibilities for the future growth and further development of The Rembrandt Database, also in relation to similar initiatives. Cet article présente le concept et la portée de la Rembrandt Database, une ressource de recherche en ligne intégrant des informations et une documentation sur l’histoire de l’art, les techniques, la conservation et les données scientifiques relatives aux peintures de Rembrandt conservées dans les collections du monde entier. Une première version publique de cette ressource de recherche institutionnelle est attendue en 2012 sur le site www.rembrandtdatabase.org. L’article examine les origines et les raisons de cette initiative, ainsi que ses objectifs et son étendue.Il décrit le développement du contenu du site web – alimenté grâce à l’effort conjoint de musées, d’instituts de recherche, et de spécialistes individuels – et l’infrastructure technique utilisée.L’article examine en outre les perspectives de développement de la Rembrandt Database – en relation avec d’autres initiatives similaires. |
