Descripció
Sumari:This article discusses a set of hitherto undescribed manuscript notes by Józef Wittlin, entitled “Negroes,” written in 1941–1968 in the United States of America. The unfinished literary works demonstrate Wittlin’s considerable interest in the situation of African Americans as a discriminated group and in social mechanisms of exclusion. Their analysis leads Wittlin to conclusions coinciding with certain theses present in the early texts by Fanon or Sartre from 1945–1955 that later initiated postcolonial reflection. At the same time, Wittlin does not abandon his personal perspective to indicate, on the one hand, the universal nature of discrimination mechanisms, which resulting in an indelible sense of guilt (Jaspers’ “metaphysical guilt”), and on the other hand, the similarities between racism and anti-Semitism.
