Descripción
Résumé:From the indigenous studies perspective, the article reflects on indigenous ways of perceiving the world and understanding concepts of man and time handed down for centuries from generation to generation in the Bubi orature, the indigenous people of Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea. Based on an analysis of oral literature texts and anthropological studies by the Bubi, the article presents selected elements of their indigenous knowledge system, including their vision of history and man, beliefs and philosophy. The article reflects on the dialog between Bubi culture and other Bantu cultures, as well as on the multilevel Bubi identity in the (post)postcolonial and partly post-tribal reality of Guinea, which bears the burden of European colonialism and long-standing local dictatorships.
