Description
Summary:Comparing Lionello Sozzi’s work to a mine, in which the reader choses his path through numerous branches and finds countless nuggets, Paolo Tortonese’s article offers a minor appendix to Gli spazi dell’anima, immagini dell’interiorità nella cultura occidentale, published in 2011. Sozzi describes the images of the inner space as projections towards «superhuman and otherworldly dimensions, toward the reign of ideas». Tortonese develops the specific case in which the research of platonic ideas gets confused with the desire to create a work of art in which the perfect image is achieved. The romantic artist suffers from the inability to express perfection completely, and takes shelter in the unspoken.
