| Zusammenfassung: | An unpublished and autograph letter sent on January 22nd 1919 by André Breton to the editor of the Genevan journal Éventail brings into focus a decisive moment in the young writer’s life. By the time he learns about the unexpected and tragic death of his friend Vaché, Breton moves away from the aesthetics of Apollinaire and Salmon to enthusiastically reach the nihilism of Tristan Tzara and to determinately start the adventure that will lead to Surrealism. This transition is witnessed by the examined letter, from which it is possible to remark the gap that separates two significant poems by Breton, Décembre and Pour Lafcadio. |
