Özet:The Journal of Gilles de Gouberville (1549-1562) is an endless source of information about the private life of well-off and working classes in Normandy during the Renaissance. Because of the author’s sedentary lifestyle and the poorness of his public relationships, what provides matter to his notes on everyday life spanning fourteen years is essentially the domestic environment made up by the noble and his servants. The daily writing proves the constant closeness between Gilles de Gouberville and his domestic workers, contrasting evidently with the restrictive prescriptions of the Renaissance court’s treatises which contemporary historiography often mixes up with the social reality of the 16th century.
