| Samenvatting: | In this article, I suggest that the “practice” in practice-as-research approaches in early modern and Shakespeare studies could and should move from describing only theatrical or dramatic practice to also describing the practices of literary technologies, especially handpress printing. The article provides a rationale for this approach, touching on performance-based practice-as-research, non-dramatic practice-based work being done on early modern texts, discussion of how this practice-based approach is useful in a pedagogical environment, and scholarship that provides a conceptual backing for my proposed approach. Following this, the article turns to a reflection of this practice-based approach, using my own experiences with printing-practice-as-research as a test case. |
