| Streszczenie: | This paper examines the literary constructions of territories in two contemporary Argentine novels, Las aventuras de la China Iron [The Adventures of China Iron] (2017) and No es un río [Not a River] (2020). These texts, I will argue, exemplify a wider aesthetic movement in contemporary Latin American narratives that challenge established structures of the modern novel. I take these narratives to be an exploration of a new narrative regime that troubles traditional discourses about landscapes and participate in the epistemological transformation implicated in the Anthropocene. These narratives use of various formal strategies and imaginaries to conceive of a non-instrumental relationship between humans and their surrounding world. The convergence of these formal explorations constitutes what I propose to call a permeable literature, that is, a form of writing that destabilizes the boundaries of the literary text by exposing it to the affectation by the various materialities that it encounters. |
