Sumario:From the study of migration imaginaries to the study of artistic mobilities, taking into account artistic expression has considerably renewed the approach of migrations. In particular, musical productions have been considered as a privileged way of collecting migration imaginaries. Is music, and especially rap, only then the faithful representation of a migrant voice? By putting migration imaginaries in perspective with the lived experiences of mobility during artistic careers, developing on the examples of Senegalese rap groups Wagëblë and Daara-J Family, the article shows how artists can appeal to a particular migration imaginary, that of the “soldier” rather than that of the “adventurer” to stage their artistic career, according to the conventions specific to the musical genre to which they wish to belong.
