| Yhteenveto: | Between spring and autumn 2006, Italian football goes through two crucial events. On one hand, the amazing triumph of the National team at the World Championship held in Germany. On the other, the inquiry regarding the manipulation of some Major League matches and appointments of referees. The article investigates the scandal as the outcome of a radical metamorphosis of professional sport. Its starting point can be located in the Nineties, whith the coming of pay tv and the unruled liberalization of the players’ market. A sort of hidden regulation of the system took shape making more and more difficult combining sports ethics and market hegemony. |
