| Shrnutí: | In the first part, the article depicts the origin and the evolution of theories and studies on quality of life, from the sixties to the more recent activities performed by ISQOLS (International Society for Quality of Life Studies). The second part regards the conceptualization of quality of life in the city, in particular considering the importance of the urban size in generating services accessibility and living conditions. To such a purpose a set of notions defined by Amartya Sen, like functionings and capabilities, have been adopted and applied to the analysis of the urban contexts. The last part presents some approaches concerning spatial, socio-economic and symbolic elements and indicates related methodological issues to look at in order to develop new researches on quality of life also paying attention to the resident and non resident metropolitan populations. |
