| Summary: | Despite Italy became an immigration country almost 30 years ago, public debate and Italian politics have not realized yet that immigration is a structural phenomenon which is destined to last and accompany society in the future. This paper focuses on welfare and immigration and is divided into three sections. The first resumes the main characteristics of laws concerning the entry and permanency of foreign migrants in Italy. The second takes specifically into consideration migrants and the Italian welfare system, and the third provides some recommendations to policy makers aimed at guaranteeing a better integration of foreign migrants into the host society. |
