| Izvleček: | Pitirim A. Sorokin (1889-1968) represents a main figure in the transition from positivism to sociocultural analysis in sociology. The human fortunes and historical events in which he was personally involved, as long as the scientific and political personalities with whom he was in acquaintance, sometimes in friendly relationship, other times in contrast, makes him an important case study for understanding the role that authors we define “classics” could have in social science. In the fiftieth anniversary of his departure this essay intends to briefly sketch the topical relevance of his profile, reminding the main fields in which Sorokin was a forerunner or an innovator, without neglecting the limits which may have conditioned the reception of his thought from a lot of contemporary sociologists. |
