| Samenvatting: | This essay deals with the last short story in the collection The Thing Around Your Neck (2009) by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, entitled “The Headstrong Historian,” and set in precolonial Nigeria. I argue that the emphasis on negative affects through the formal choice of the short story strengthens the feminist perspective on historiography. I also contend that the central part played by anachronism shows the fractures in the matrilineal transmission of the heritage of colonialism and slavery. |
