| Περίληψη: | The Chimurenga, one of South Africa’s longest-running literary journalism magazines, and among the few spaces available for experimental and literary nonfiction, actively challenges and distorts the distinction between fiction and nonfiction. The journal’s offshoot, a sometimes-quarterly broadsheet called The Chronic, inaugurated in 2011 as a “fictional newspaper” based in the year 2008, in particular provides a compelling study of how the tensions and affinities between fiction and nonfiction, as well as other registers of literary expression, are navigated via a specific conceptualisation of literary journalism and the newspaper format, where the contests of truth-telling are often more acute and pose different challenges to the fiction/nonfiction divide. |
