| סיכום: | Continuing mistreatment in the Russian army can only be explained with regard to the military institution itself. One must take into account the reasons for the Russian population's tolerance in relation to this phenomenon. By analysing letters, addressed to the Union of Committees of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia by conscripts' families, and by studying public opinion, this article will show that the origin of this lack of opposition lies in the image the public has of the army in Russia. National service and its associated maltreatment are seen, reflected in this image, as essential initiation for an all-too-often socially disadvantaged population. |
