| Resumo: | The Delzian Plain is a fertile widening in the northwest of the Zagros Mountains. The project “From Mound to Cave – The Delzian Plain as an economic landscape” explores the evolution of the landscape from the Last Glacial throughout the entire Holocene. It focuses on agricultural and herding practices by combining environmental studies, archaeological fieldwork, economic modelling and ethno-archaeology. Here, we briefly present first results of current work at tell Girda Dasht, whose occupational sequence can be traced back to the Chalcolithic. We also summarise first results from the cave of Ashkawta Rash close by. There we excavated a test trench, which shows a stratigraphic sequence with hundreds of fireplaces in typical ash and dung layers as well as two storage pits dating to the Islamic period. Older occupation layers can be dated to the Iron Age and to strata below. Archaeological finds from Girda Dasht are lithics and interregional well-recognisable ceramics. Most finds from the cave are simple handmade sherds and bones from caprines. The next objective is to establish a local ceramic sequence from radiocarbon dated stratified cultural deposits. |
