| সংক্ষিপ্ত: | Remote working and its impact on the quality of life in Ireland has been significantly influenced by various factors such as the increased participation of women in the labour market, digitalisation and the flexibilisation of the labour market. The various lockdown measures imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated this transformation by forcing many employees to implement remote working. Although working from home offers advantages such as flexibility and savings in time and money, it also has disadvantages, such as social isolation and communication difficulties. The Irish government has examined the issue since 1998 and has published several reports. Before the pandemic, only a fraction of employees worked from home, but after the pandemic it became commonplace, with increased interest in a blended model. However, the shift is not without its challenges, including the work-life balance, and increased gender inequalities. To regulate such practices, the European Union has encouraged Member States to draw up national action plans, but regulations in Ireland remain unclear. Furthermore, the particular situation of cross-border workers between Ireland and Northern Ireland presents additional challenges in terms of social benefits, social security and taxation. In conclusion, remote working can have both positive and negative impacts on workers’ quality of life, and it is up to each stakeholder, including employees, employers and government, to take steps to mitigate the risks and maximise the benefits of this practice. |
