| Özet: | The political context of redefining British identity has changed since 1997. “Cool Britannia” was in part an attempt to rebrand Britain’s image abroad and reposition Britain as a modern, creative and hi tech country not the traditional heritage image of beefeaters and ancient buildings. Internally, major legislative change on human rights and equalities validated societal changes that were already occurring and reinforced a changing identity, accepting of diversity. Demographic change, an increased recognition of inequalities linked to ethnicity, and increased inward migration drawn by Britain’s successful economy created a new political context leading to the emphasis on community cohesion, integration and attempts to define “Britishness” in terms of values and norms. |
