| Shrnutí: | This article analyzes the criticism that the Indigenous intellectual Guaman Poma addressed to the government of the “Spaniards” in the colonial Andes. To this end, this study situates his work within the doctrinal debates of the late sixteenth century, particularly during Peru's controversy over granting perpetual encomiendas (labor grants). Its aim is to demonstrate how, almost half a century later, the author intervened in these debates with a proposal for the organization of cabildos de indios (Indian town councils). The originality of his proposal lies in the transformation of the Eurocentric logic that defined what a cabildo was and what its functions and legitimacy were. |
