Zusammenfassung:The historical development of Operational Research (OR) is traditionally seen as involving a “crisis” during the Seventies and the Eighties following an early “Golden Age”. This paper aims at reanalyzing this “crisis”. We will try to show that its very existence can be questioned and that the diagnosis that has often been proposed to explain it seems to be largely based on misunderstandings. We then outline a different path to the analysis of the history of OR that might prove useful to prepare its future.
