| Summary: | The study investigates the northern walls of Pompeii between Porta Vesuvio and Porta Ercolano, focusing between Towers X and XI to analyze Samnite phases through opus quadratum masonry and identify internal stratigraphy. Typological and statistical analysis reveals: (i) the predominant height value of the blocks corresponded to 1½ Oscan-Samnite feet; (ii) although the masonry is classified as opus quadratum, the survey revealed that the blocks are polygonal in shape; (iii) although the laying surfaces may seem horizontal, they are actually polygonal chains made of line segments with varying inclinations. These characteristics are the result of deliberate choices with cultural and technical content. |
