| Gaia: | The development of the Madrid Content City cluster, inaugurated in 2019 in the outskirts of the Spanish capital, illuminates the way in which Netflix is expanding worldwide, while also revealing a turn in public-private collaborations in the context of the neo-liberal globalization. After providing a chronology of the development of this production hub, the article focuses on the influence of space and infrastructure on Netflix’s production practices and internationalization strategy. It then examines how a private initiative led by the Secuoya Group has linked up with the Spanish government plans to foster the economy and the labor market opportunities in the country’s audiovisual sector by making regulatory accommodations to attract local and foreign investment from global streamers and other major players in the media industries. |
