| Streszczenie: | This corpus linguistics study analyses a subset of phraseological binomials in English made up parasynonyms to reveal their origins, structures, meanings and axiological values. Based on a journalistic corpus, the study targets combinations presenting phonetic, semantic and phonetic-cum-semantic repetition phenomena falling within the [Aing and Bing] pattern, such as naming and shaming, booing and jeering or moaning and groaning. Two hypotheses are put forward: on the one hand, that this phraseological pattern has a negative axiological value which is the result of the link between form and sense, and, on the other hand, that certain binomials established by usage give rise to the creation of new combinations by analogy with lexical variants, which accounts for the productivity of this pattern. The use of three corpora of different dates and volumes allows us to corroborate these two hypotheses and to show their vitality and frequency of use in journalistic discourse. |
