| সংক্ষিপ্ত: | Starting from the fact that automobiles regularly feature in the works of Joyce Carol Oates, this article aims to show their function: as an object of desire for an adolescent girl who wants to see the country in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?,” as an object of power in “The Wheel of Love,” where the character ends up losing control, as a transitional object towards another machine in “The Wheel,” and finally as a demonic object in “Lover,” where it is used as a weapon of destruction. The study of four short stories makes it possible to consider different ways of using the machine, emphasizing the power of female characters to liberate themselves by influencing (or attempting to influence) their male partners. |
