Through the analysis of a conflict that took place in a village in an Indian region of southern Mexico, this article attempts to show how the conflict arose at the intersection point of several global processes (religious geopolitics, capitalist expansion, redefinition of Indian-ness and judiciarisation of the Indian question). The examination of this specific case will allow globalisation to be viewed as a highly ambiguous situation, corresponding to a complex series of transformations and negotiations of the relationship between local and global, while control over this relationship will itself appear as the central stake in the conflict. |
