| Gaia: | In the present world, our capacity to receive divine revelation and to interpret divine truth is unfinished and unperfected. This reflective piece from a participant researcher on the TheoArtistry: Text & Image scheme blends academic and personal commentary to dwell on this imperfect relationship to revelation and unpack the creative process which led to the final artwork titled Potential. Intended deliberately to obfuscate the relationship between text and image, the piece highlights losses and failures within the human attempt to grasp the divine. Simultaneously, it invokes the positive connotations of the word “potential” by seeking to evoke a Christian hope for things unseen and for all that is yet to be made perfect. Underpinning the double meaning of the artwork is a commitment to seeing the collaborative process between artists and researchers as itself containing “revealing potential,” which is to say the possibility of producing new knowledge and forming new connections which enable us to see and hear more clearly. |
