Descripció
Sumari:This article focuses on the representation of the collective memory of an event that became emblematic in Argentina about the last civil-military dictatorship (1976-1983): the ‘Night of the Pencils’. The term refers to a series of kidnappings of secondary school students in the city of La Plata (the capital of Buenos Aires province) in September 1976. Over the last two decades, images referring to the ‘Night of the Pencils’ have proliferated in the public space of this city and of Buenos Aires (the federal capital): stencils, murals… By analyzing a mural on this subject painted in stages on the façade of the Faculty of Arts of La Plata between 2013 and 2019, we will examine the process that has made this event a symbol of the collective memory of those affected by the dictatorial repression.
