Descripció
Sumari:In this article, we mean to analyse certain works of fiction written by Thomas Hardy through the prism of the animal question. Animals are a motif present in each novel by Hardy, who, as a thinker of humanity and the world, deals with scientific and anthropological matters of his time thanks to them. On a strictly literary level, Hardy’s animals have various functions: they are either sheer literary devices, simple receptacles for metaphors, or may belong to the background of the characters, or on the contrary become actors of the novel, equally important. We shall try to see how a primarily anthropomorphic and anthropocentric perspective of the environment recedes in order to give way to a more political vision of the living world.
