| סיכום: | The article discusses the complex interplay between landscapes, mindscapes and memory in Kathleen Jamie’s collection of nature and travel essays entitled Surfacing. Each essay offers a meditation on time, deep time, and spiral time, but every now and then Jamie adds narrative layers dealing with loss, ranging from a sense of personal mourning to a vision of ecological catastrophe. Jamie dwells on the healing powers of memory, both on individual and collective levels, and she does so by orchestrating the liminal space-time of the “almost”. This article seeks to examine narrative moments of in‑betweenness—instances in which the memory of the (distant) past re‑enters the present, disrupting linear temporality and inviting a reconsideration of the limits of perception and knowledge. Such temporal disjunctions compel the reader to pause and reflect on the fluid, evolving meanings embedded within the narrative. Central to this analysis are the interrelated themes of collective memory and personal recollection as (re)discovered or contested terrains; the construction of autobiographical space; rewriting as a decolonial practice aimed at reconfiguring narrative geographies; and the poetic inscriptions embedded within the landscape. |
