| सारांश: | Contrary to what is often thought, the author shows (through the experience of some Japanese students in France) that to learn a language living in the country is not enough. « Authentic »contacts with the locals, necessary for such learning to actually take place, are hard to find and slow to develop. Both parties – the French, due to a certain xenophobia, the Japanese students, due to their tendency to keep to themselves – are responsible for this state of affairs. But the author makes a useful contribution, by enumerating the various ways one might best profit from living abroad, whether it is the way of life (in an apartment or a residence), leisure activities, or working “in a tandem”(exchanging conversation lessons). |
