Riassunto:The essay offers a comprehensive theory of style in twelve theses. The centre of the theory is formulated in the first thesis: style is the inscription of the dialectics of interpellation and counter-interpellation. The remaining eleven theses make the concepts used in the first thesis explicit. This involves references to Althusser’s theory of ideology, to the anthropology of Lucien Sève, to the concepts of style to be found in Deleuze and Raymond Williams, to the theory of common sense in Gramsci and the concept of language game in Wittgenstein. The essay constructs concepts of linguistic formation, of lifestyle and of linguaculture. The last thesis suggests that stylistics is the heart of anglistics.
