Zusammenfassung:Châtelet demonstrated a sustained interest in the generative activity of mathematical thought, which he sought to grasp in all its modalities: from the gesture to the diagram that prolongs it, and to the metaphor that accompanies it, he aimed to capture “the operation at its birth.” This article seeks to reconstruct these inaugural gestures, not only through an engagement with Châtelet’s thought but also through his philosophical style, considered as a theoretical operator in its own right, on a par with thought itself. The prominence of chemical and dynamist metaphors in his writing ultimately leads us to examine the place of Naturphilosophie in his thought and in his way of articulating the relations between nature and spirit.
