When the characters disrupt this carefully constructed order, the entire society begins to unravel. On the surface, such a system may appear stable and well-integrated, but the underlying reality is only revealed when one looks behind the scenes, exposing the fabricated control mechanisms. The very structure of a dystopia enables the effective exercise of tyrannical power. This article aims to examine the controlled structures within a dystopia through qualitative approach of close reading analysis, with a particular focus on Veronica Roth's novel Divergent. Through an analysis of the novel's settings and the mechanisms used to create a constrained structure, this study will explore how a dystopian rule is perpetuated. The insights from this articles have broad implications, encompassing analogous systems in today's real-life societies. |
