Résumé:In several Canadian, Quebec and North American works of the 20th and 21st century, the theme of the marginalised character and the depiction of the solitude experienced by this individual in relation to the society around him or her is also often presented as a criticism of that society and a regret for a past of different values. The individuals in these works – isolated by their “différence” and their individual histories – and the works themselves can be considered extended metaphors for a greater reality.
