A novel dealing with history in the making, Quichotte is based on a layering of narratives which host and recompose the various issues at stake in the 17th-century masterpiece. In order to explore the dynamics of realistic representation, this article first examines the descriptive process, with its strong focus on material details; then a case study of the character of Sancho analyses the dialectics between representation and the materiality of bodies and language; the study ends with the impossible resolution of novel writing, caught between storytelling and archiving the present. |
