| סיכום: | This essay examines the influence and interplay between Philippe Égalité, duc d’Orléans (1747–93), and George, prince of Wales (1762–1830), and in so doing assesses the continuing scope for royal princes in the two leading monarchies of Western Europe to act as opposition leaders in the late eighteenth century. It emphasizes the insufficiently recognized extent to which Philippe’s political attitudes within French constitutional life were moulded by his exposure to and familiarity with the values of the Foxite Whigs. The essay concludes with a consideration of what, if anything, was in play of this mutual connection during the climactic year for both princes of 1789. |
