Résumé:The aim of this paper is to examine Wide Sargasso Sea in the light of two early manuscripts, “Creole” and the last chapter of Voyage in the Dark, which may have influenced the composition of Jean Rhys’s last novel. To a certain extent, Wide Sargasso Sea enabled Rhys to resurrect prior sketches she had written a long time before she intended to rectify Charlotte Brontë’s misrepresentation of Caribbean madness.
